Dejiny slovenského politického myslenia sú zaujímavou konfrontáciou rozdielnych koncepcií rozvoja národných špecifík a zabezpečenia kolektívnych a občianskych práv. Okrem známych osobností sa publikácia venuje aj menej známym predstaviteľom slovenského národotvorného myslenia. Uvádzané témy a preberaní myslitelia predstavujú zároveň ideové, ale často aj osobnostné protiklady. Viaceré navzájom protirečivé koncepcie však vytvárali myšlienkovú konkurenciu dôležitú pre rozvoj kultúrnopolitických aktivít slovenských vzdelancov. Z priblížených osobností národotvorného procesu sa stali všeobecne známe tie, ktorých myšlienky sa historicky presadili alebo zásadným spôsobom determinovali proces národnej emancipácie Slovákov. Viaceré z nich sa stali súčasťou národnej mytológie. Avšak slovenské politické myslenie je oveľa pluralistickejšie a myšlienkovo bohatšie, ako by mohol naznačovať reduktívny nacionalistický naratív prítomný aj v prejavoch novodobých politických aktérov.
